The New KP1 from Knight Rifles Reviewed by: Tony Smotherman Knight's new introduction to the interchangeable gun market is the KP1 and it is a sweet piece of equipment to add to your arsenal. It gives you the opportunity to change from muzzleloader to rimfire to centerfire in less than 30 seconds. The system is set up so that you don’t need any tools to break the gun down and change barrels. You use the barrels extractor that is held in place by a ball detent to push out the pin that holds the barrel secure. It is a very simple process, slip off the forearm, push out the barrel retaining pin, pull off the barrel, install another barrel, push pin back in, and lock and load. Another great bonus of the KP1 is that it the only interchangeable barrel design that you can remove the trigger for cleaning after the hunt is done. We all know that the life of a smooth trigger is keeping it free of debris. I got a chance to use the KP1 muzzleloader combination this fall on a whitetail hunt in Iowa where I harvested a big ten pointer. From there I went straight to Wyoming to hunt prairie dogs with the same gun but in .17 caliber. I must admit, it felt pretty good to be able to hunt two totally different critters with only one gun and it took no time at all to change over. Talk about making things easier when going through the airport! One gun is nice!
